When you go down the candle aisle in a big box store the variety can be overwhelming. There's a candle of seemingly every scent and color. People usually pick one in a cute jar that smells nice, put it in their buggy, and go on about their way. What most people aren't considering is what that candle is made of.
Most candles in big box stores are made with paraffin wax. Every now and then you'll see a soy candle but more often than not the jar will say something along the lines of "soy wax blend". Blended with what? It's usually a blend of paraffin and soy.
What is paraffin wax?
Paraffin wax is made from petroleum and when burned it releases harmful fumes like toluene and benzene that are linked to asthma and lung cancer. Because of this, many companies are attempting to portray they don't use paraffin wax by blending it with soy and calling it a soy wax blend. However, those harmful fumes are still being released into the air.
So why do some candle companies still use paraffin wax? Paraffin is good for cosmetic reasons. It has a long shelf life and can hold lots of fragrance. It's kind of like food with preservatives. It looks good on paper until you figure out what the ingredients are.
We chose 100% all natural soy wax.
I couldn't stand the thought of putting harmful chemicals like toluene and benzene around my family who already suffer from allergies and asthma. So at Hardeman Candle Co. we use 100% all natural soy wax that is derived from soy beans grown underneath the California sun. Soy wax burns cleaner and longer than any other candle without releasing harmful toxins in your home.
All of our Fragrances are Phthalate, Irritant, and Toxin Free
Every drop of fragrance oil we use is handcrafted to be free of phthalates, irritants, and other toxins. What are phthalates? Phthalates are sneaky chemicals found in lots of fragrance oils. It's also the chemical that triggers so many people to have allergic reactions around candles. We're proud to say that every candle that comes out of our studio is phthalate-free!
