Proper candle care is important for the longevity and performance of soy candles. The best way to ensure a clean burn and proper scent throw is by trimming your candle’s wick. We have some super cute rose gold wick trimmers that can do the job perfectly!

Do You Really Need to Trim Your Wicks?

Yes! Because of how candles work, carbon tends to collect on the tip of the wick where the flame burns. When the wick is not trimmed after each burn, the carbon buildup just gets bigger. This is bad for two reasons. First, when you light a wick that has a lot of carbon buildup, it gives off black smoke which can be harmful to the air quality of your home. Second, the carbon buildup can get so large that it begins to weigh the wick down. When this happens, the wick ends up falling over into the wax and most likely won’t light again.

How To Trim Your Candle’s Wick

The optimal height for a candle wick is 1/4” to 1/2”. It’s important to trim your candle’s wick to this height each time before you light it. When you trim your wick, be sure that it is done before you light your candle and not after. If you trim it after, the carbon buildup will fall into the melted wax and tarnish the candle.

By trimming your candle’s wicks, you can be sure that it will continue to burn all the way down to the end allowing you to enjoy your candle until the very last part. It will also reduce the amount of carbon released into the air because you’ll be trimming any buildup off before every burn.
